A SLICE OF TREACLE TART
is a selection of scattered perceptions from my childhood.
As an only child, born to East End parents, I was brought up in the leafy suburb of Woodford Green in Essex. The belief that a child should be seen but not heard was the parental approach so I had plenty of time to observe and absorb the 'goings on' around me.
Without siblings to compete against, care about, argue with or share confidences, I developed strong inner resources along with a tendency to live a great deal through my
imagination.
A Slice of Treacle Tart is not a nostalgia trip.
It does not set out to reminisce about the 'good old days'.
Although we are defined by the era in which we were born, we all share experiences and memories of childhood that bind us together and transcend time and place.
As a writer and performer I strive to capture particular moments and
emotions in their simplest form so they may be seen, touched and tasted.
